Baulas Blend Coffee is
a joint venture established in 2004 between the Leatherback
Trust and CoopeTarrazú. It is a particular blend of coffee made specifically for the Leatherback Trust to satisfy the needs of a growing market for gourmet coffee in Costa Rica as well as The United States, while focusing on the conservation of the leatherback and other sea turtles. Based on this joint venture, Coopetarrazu produces, packages and distributes the Baulas Blend coffee, donating $4.00 per each pound of coffee sold to the Leatherback Trust.
Baulas Blend Coffee comes
from the Tarrazú region of the Costa Rican Highlands. The coffee beans are cultivated between 4500 and 6000 ft. above sea level and therefore, are considered strictly hard bean (SHB). Strictly hard bean is a way of classifying the coffee beans based on their quality in Costa Rica. This particular type of bean is considered higher in quality and density and therefore holds in the rich flavor of the coffee beans throughout the roasting process.
Baulas Blend Coffee is
made from only Arabic Coffee Beans which are considered the best
quality coffee bean in the world. Due to these particular characteristics
of Tarrazu highlands: volcanic soil, location, temperature, precipitation
and altitude range, Baulas Blend Coffee in particular stands
out amongst other coffees because of its mild strength, full
body, intense aroma and medium acidity with a hint of dark chocolate.
